Faces of Enschede: A school project
My passion for design actually began with photography and more specifically: street portraits. One of the projects in the last year of my studies gave me the opportunity to get in-depth knowledge in portrait photography, practice my interview and writing skills, but also experiment with different printing methods, develop an entire magazine, and capture the beauty and diversity of the people in our city.
👩💻 Role: Student & designer
🚀 Team: Solo
⏰ Duration: 10 weeks
Outcomes
From concept and development to a printed magazine and exhibiting actual works, this project was fully individual. The printed magazine included multiple photos and an interview with every participant. The goal was to show the diverse looks, but also the different lifestyles, hobbies, and interests of Enschede's youth - artists, writers, and baristas. Inspired by "Humans of New York", this project shows a variety of personalities and shares their unique stories.
One of the sweetest things I've noticed is the quote in the photo above: Nick dreamed of being a handmade bag designer and he actually achieved it a few years later, creating unique collections of handmade bags. You can check his beautiful bags here.
Conclusion
This was definitely the most exciting project during my studies and the surprise is that over five years later, people keep on visiting and liking the Facebook page, while I'm totally open to giving away this project to another passionate photographer. So, if you live in Enschede and this feels like something you would like to do - feel free to get in touch with me.
